Obama on the Slide
Barrick Obama did his chances no good at all during his latest encounters
with arch-rival Hillary Clinton. His judgment appeared to be flawed when
he jumped straight in and vowed to meet with any foreign dictator apparently
without preconditions.
Hillary could hardly believe her good fortune. She countered by pointing
out that it all depended on the circumstances and the context of the meetings.
What a response! Obama is now seen to be almost reckless in his desire
to win the White House. The people saw through it-- and whilst 'eardleyfactor'
is not yet writing him off (he can recover if 'events' fall his way) but
his current position is somewhat precarious. He needs to demonstrate that
on future occasions he can re-establish himself as a man who can work
well under pressure and show sound judgment. Sr Clinton's apparent lack
of modest dress code rebounded in her favor as we knew it would. She is
now not only still very much a 'woman' but also a sound politician.
Talking about pressure Rudi Giuliani appears to be riding out any minor
tempests that blow his way. His third wife appears to be well drilled
as to her public deportment and we have a strong fancy for Rudi should
(God forbid) the enemies of this country bring off another major attack.
All American memories will flood back to the dust and chaos of New York
on 9/11 and the sight of Rudi leading his troops confidently and assuredly.
That image will long endure and lend comfort to the American people
A snapshot of the 2008 Election seems to Clinton v Giuliani at this moment--
8/8/07.However, never forget Harold Macmillan's advice :-
''Events, dear boy. Events,'' determine elections!
